ENTER BY THE NARROW GATE (Part 1)

Our reading of the Word is taken from the book of Matthew which says:

“Enter by the NARROW GATE; for WIDE is the gate and BROAD is the way which leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because NARROW is the gate and difficult is THE WAY which leads to LIFE, and there are FEW who find it” (Matthew 3:13-14).

Every Word of our blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ gives life. That’s why He said that the words that He speaks to us are spirit and they are life (John 6:63). Our Scripture reading above from Matthew are also words which the Lord spoke, and the are life. And if they are life, then it means it contains the message of salvation.

If you want to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ as Christian, then you must believe in God the CORRECT WAY and cast away YOUR OWN WAYS and THOUGHTS. It is only then can you believe in the Word of God according to His laid down principles of salvation and receiving the forgiveness of sins in order to enter the Kingdom of God.

When Jesus says “Enter by the NARROW GATE” and He also says NARROW is the gate and difficult is THE WAY which leads to LIFE, then we must know that JESUS is the “NARROW GATE” and the “NARROW WAY.” That’s why He said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).

So how can we “Enter by the NARROW GATE?” This is a very important question for anybody who desire to have everlasting life.

First of all, if we want to “Enter by the NARROW GATE” and walk on the “NARROW WAY,” then JESUS says we have to deny ourselves. He said, “...If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it” (Matthew 16:24-25)

When JESUS says “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself,” He is talking about denying our own ways and thoughts. In fact God spoke about this in Isaiah when He said, “Let the wicked forsake HIS WAY, and the unrighteous man HIS THOUGHTS, let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon” (Isaiah 55:7).

JESUS is GOD, and what He is saying here is that, if we to “Enter by the NARROW GATE,” we have to forsake our own ways and thoughts by which we want to gain salvation and the forgiveness of sins. These includes the prayers of repentance, the doctrines and the commandments of men through denomination beliefs, believing in the BLOOD of JESUS alone, the gradual sanctification theory, etc.

Secondly, If we want to “Enter by the NARROW GATE” and walk on the “NARROW WAY,” then JESUS we must “take up” our “cross and follow” Him. However, we have to be very careful not to misinterpret this statement of Jesus according to the thoughts of the flesh.

We must look at the next verse in the same chapter of Matthew 16:25 in order to understand what Jesus meant very well. He said, “For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it” (Matthew 16:26).

To receive salvation, we must be willing to die with Jesus and be resurrected with Him. We must know that JESUS came to put away our sinful life to death so that we will lose the sinful life for eternal life. He explained this very well in the gospel of John when He said, “He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life” (John 12:25).

And if we want to lose the sinful life, then we must die with Him by believing that He was actually BAPTIZED for us by John the Baptist in order to carry our sins upon Himself to the Cross. And we must believe in His BLOOD and RESURRECTION. This is how we can keep our life for eternal life as Jesus was saying in John. And this is how we can “Enter by the NARROW GATE.”

That is why the Apostle Paul said, “Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin” (Romans 6:6-7). When you read the verse 3 of the same chapter of Romans, Paul even said that we were baptized into Christ’s death.

If a person doesn’t want to lose his sinful life by believing in JESUS BAPTISM and dying with Him on the Cross through faith, then Jesus says that that person “desires to save his life,” and He said he will “lose it.” It means the person will die a spiritual death w which is hell.

When you lose your sinful life by believing in JESUS baptism, His blood, and His resurrection, then you have entered by the “NARROW GATE” and you are on the “NARROW WAY.”

The reason why Jesus said “NARROW is the gate and difficult is THE WAY which leads to LIFE, and there are FEW who find it” is because many people believe in their own religion according to their own denominational beliefs and settings. It has actually become very difficult for such people to deny their own ways and thoughts.

And unless they “deny” their religious beliefs and “take up” their “cross” to follow “the Way, the Truth, and the Life,” God says they cannot receive the forgiveness of sins. Such religious people are still sinners, and that’s why God said, “Let the wicked forsake HIS WAY, and the unrighteous man HIS THOUGHTS.”

God said in Isaiah that they are “unrighteous” because of their own denominational doctrines and thoughts. And He said that unless they forsake them, He cannot pardon them to give them the BLESSING of the forgiveness of sins.

But if they forsake and return to the TRUE GOSPEL of salvation, God said He, “will have mercy” on them, And the Scripture says, “..And to our God, for He will abundantly pardon”

Those who have entered by the “NARROW GATE” and who are on the “NARROW WAY” are really BLESSED!
