Galatians chapters 4–6 show why those who have become children through the gospel of the water and the Spirit cannot become slaves again.

There follow, one after another, the children who have received the Spirit of His Son and call out, “Abba, Father”; Paul, who embraced, with labor in birth, the saints who were trying to go back again to the weak and beggarly elements; the son of Hagar and the son of Sarah; the brothers who bear the fruit of the Spirit and bear one another’s burdens; and Paul’s confession that he has nothing to boast in except the Cross of Christ. Since Jesus, who received baptism from John the Baptist and so had even our sins passed on to Him, shed His blood on the Cross, received the judgment in our place, and rose again, those who have become sons by that grace are children of freedom born through promise. The word that says not to take on a yoke of bondage ever again was given to these very children.
