Our Scripture reading is taken from Genesis which reads:

“Now Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran. So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it” (Genesis 28:10-12).

The entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation contains mysteries of the salvation of Jesus Christ. In our reading, it is said that Jacob came to a place “and he took ONE of the STONES of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep.” But what does this STONE represent?

Before the incidence of the dream, Jacob was running away after lying to his father Isaac to receive the blessings which was meant for the first born. Esau was therefore chasing after Jacob in order to kill him.

But unlike Esau, Jacob was a humble person who didn’t rely on his works or deeds, but he acknowledged his own sins and weaknesses before God. His thoughts and heart were set on Jesus Christ as his Lord of salvation. Therefore the STONE which Jacob took and put his head upon to rest is JESUS CHRIST.

The Scriptures makes it clear that Jesus Christ is the STONE. King David said Christ is “THE STONE which the builders rejected (Psalm 118:22). The Apostle Peter also refer to Jesus as “A LIVING STONE, A CHIEF CORNERSTONE” and “A STONE OF STUMBLING” (1 Peter 2:4-8). Paul also speaks of Jesus as being the type of STONE which Peter described (Ephesians 2:20).

Therefore Jacob laying his head on the STONE to rest means that he was resting on Jesus Christ his Savior. It confirms the Words of the Lord Jesus when He said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).

And because the STONE which Jacob rested upon was Jesus Christ, he had a dream about Him. The Scripture says, “Then he dreamed, and behold, A LADDER was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the ANGELS of God were ASCENDING and DESCENDING on it” (Genesis 28:12).

We must take note of the fact that angels of God were ascending and descending on the LADDER. So what is the proof that Jesus Christ is the LADDER? Jesus proved it Himself when He said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter, you shall see heaven open, and the ANGELS of God ASCENDING and DESCENDING upon the SON OF MAN” (John 1:51).

Don’t forget that the Scripture tells us in Genesis that this LADDER “was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven.” God is the One who “set up” the LADDER “on the earth.” It means that we are from the “Earth,” and if we want to go to “Heaven,” then we must climb up this LADDER (Jesus Christ) by faith in order to reach Heaven.

JESUS is the LADDER whom God “set up” by sending Him to come down to the “Earth” so that we can climb up to “Heaven” through Him. That is why He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).

It is very important for us to know that the Word of God tells us that this LADDER (Jesus Christ) came by the water and blood (1 John 5:6) in order to set Himself up . And you can climb up this LADDER only by faith in His water, blood and resurrection.

Anybody who tries to climb up the LADDER by believing in only the blood of the Cross will surely fall down. This is because such a person believes in the salvation of God according to his own way and thoughts, and therefore he was trying to climb up the LADDER by the works of the Law and by his own strength. That is why it is written, "You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace" (Galatians 5:4).

There is no insecurity or fear for those who climb up the LADDER by having faith in His water, blood and the Spirit. Don’t forget that angels were ascending and descending on the LADDER. And according to the Bible, these angels are “ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation” (Hebrews 1:14).

Know therefore, that the ENERGETIC POWER which enable you to climb up to the top of the LADDER (Heaven) is the BAPTISM, the BLOOD and the RESURRECTION of Jesus Christ.

Those who believe in God’s righteousness fulfilled by the baptism of Jesus and His blood of the Cross have climbed up to the top, and so they have reached THE TOP of the LADDER (Heaven). That is why the Scripture says that they have been made to “sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:6).

If you BELIEVE that the LADDER came by WATER and BLOOD to save you, then you are BLESSED!
