Today we will continue our study on the same account of Genesis because the Lord has a lot to reveal to us in the events surrounding Jacob’s dream and what he did. Let’s read:

“Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it. And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than THE HOUSE OF GOD, and this is the gate of heaven!” Then Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the STONE that he had put at his head, set it up as a PILLAR, and poured oil on top of it. And he called the name of that place BETHEL; but the name of that city had been Luz previously” (Genesis 28:16-19)

After God revealed to Jacob that Jesus Christ is the STONE and LADDER, the Scripture goes further to tell us mysteries about how God builds His House (The Church) or Temple, and the kind of faith upon which God builds HIS HOUSE.

Now let us look at how God used Jacob to tell us how He builds HIS HOUSE. The Scriptures says, “Then Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the STONE that he had put at his head, set it up as a PILLAR, and poured oil on top of it. And he called the name of that place BETHEL (meaning House of God).”

We have already known that the STONE is Jesus Christ. Therefore if it says that Jacob “took the STONE that he had put at his head,” and “set it up as a PILLAR,” it means that the Church or the House of God is built upon the foundation of faith on the STONE (Jesus Christ) who came by the water, blood and Spirit (1 John 5:6).

That is why the Apostle Paul said, “Having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF BEING THE CHIEF CORNERSTONE, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a HOLY TEMPLE in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit” (Ephesians 2:20-22).

The above Bible passage contains the mystery of the STONE (Jesus Christ) which Jacob set it up as a PILLAR of the House of God. God is revealing to us in Ephesians that He has made us A HOLY TEMPLE by building us on the CHIEF CORNERSTONE (Jesus Christ).

In other words, God made us a HOLY TEMPLE through the water and the blood of the STONE (Jesus Christ). This is because when the STONE was baptized, He fulfilled “all righteousness” for us (Matthew 3:15). He then died on the Cross and resurrected to complete His holy work on our behalf.

That is why we are temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 3:16). In fact the Scripture tells us clearly that we are “God’s building” (1 Corinthians 3:9). Therefore, the fact that Jacob used the STONE (Jesus Christ) to “set it up as a PILLAR” means that it is the PILLAR (Jesus Christ) who is holding us as His Church building.

When your faith in Jesus Christ is firmly established in His water, blood and the Spirit, you also become a “Stone.” That’s why Jesus gave Peter the name “Cephas,” which means “A Stone” (John 1:42). And because Peter’s faith was firmly established in Jesus, He told him, “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this ROCK (STONE) I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18).

Peter became “A Stone” because his faith was not only based on the blood of Jesus, but it was firmly rooted in THE BAPTISM OF JESUS. We can see this in his epistle when he said, “There is also an antitype which now saves us – baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 3:21).

We must not forget that after Jacob set up the STONE (Jesus Christ) as the PILLAR, the Word of God tells us that he “Poured oil on top of it.” The word “Oil” stands for the HOLY SPIRIT. In fact there is a mystery here. If Jesus Christ is the STONE, and the Bible says that Jacob set up the STONE as a PILLAR before pouring oil on it, then this mystery must be unveiled before we move further.

The question is, “How did God set up Jesus as a PILLAR before pouring Oil (the Holy Spirit) on Him?” We must know that God set up Jesus Christ (the CORNERSTONE) as a PILLAR when He was baptized by John the Baptist to take all our sins upon Himself to fulfill all righteousness (Matthew 3:15). This is how Jesus was “Set up” as a PILLAR of the TEMPLE OF GOD (believers).

That is why after Jesus was baptized, the HOLY SPIRIT (Oil) descended upon Him, which is the fulfillment of the “Oil” which Jacob poured on the “STONE” after setting it up. It means that God will also pour Oil (the Holy Spirit) to dwell in those whose faith is like the Apostle Peter who became “A Stone” by believing in the BAPTISM OF JESUS as the antitype of salvation (1 Peter 3:21).

God is therefore telling us that He cannot pour His Oil of the Holy Spirit on those who don’t have faith in the BAPTISM OF JESUS CHRIST. Don’t forget that after Jacob poured oil on the STONE which he set up as a PILLAR, he called the place “BETHEL” which means “House of God” or “Temple of God.”

It means that a person can become “A Holy Temple of God” only after receiving the forgiveness of sins by believing in the Baptism of Jesus (Acts 2:38). You will then become “A House of God” (BETHEL), and the Scripture will be fulfill which says, “in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit” (Ephesians 2:22).

God no longer dwell in temples made with hands (Acts 17:24). Because He Himself said, “Heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool. Where is the house that you will build Me? And where is the place of My rest? For all those things My hand has made, and all those things exist,” says the LORD. “But on this one I will look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at My Word” (Isaiah 66:1-2).

God says clearly here that He does not dwell in temples made with hands which the Apostle Paul confirmed in Acts 17:24. The most elegant, exquisite, magnificent, and the richest temple was built by King Solomon. Yet God allowed this temple to be destroyed in 587 BC by Nebuchadnezzar. And the Jerusalem Temple was also destroyed in 70 AD by Titus during the Roman Empire because God no longer dwell in temples made with human hands.

So don’t let anyone deceive you that the so called “Beautiful temples” with a “Big Cross” made by human hands with bricks, stones, water, cement, is “A House of God.” Many Christians have been deceived, going to various places such as “Bethel Prayer Camp” and whatever Miracle and Prayer Ministry to seek God. But God is not found there because Jesus said that God’s temple is not confine to a location (John 4:21).

We are the HOLY TEMPLE OF THE LORD, and the materials which God used to build this HOLY TEMPLE are the birth of Jesus, His baptism, blood, and the Spirit (His resurrection). God built us as His Temple on the STONE (Jesus Christ) and He set Him up as a PILLAR for us through His baptism.

But if we allow any of the elements of our faith such as the water, blood, and the resurrection of Jesus which God used to “set up” the PILLAR for our standing to break down, then our faith will also collapse, and we will disintegrate in pieces in judgment.

Therefore we must never compromise our faith in the water, the blood and the Spirit of Jesus our LORD. We must ruminate on this gospel of truth day by day.

Let us give all the GLORY to Jesus Christ our God “for His indescribable gift” (2 Corinthians 9:15).

You are BLESSED for KNOWING and BELIEVING in this gospel of TRUTH!
