Our Scripture reading for this New Day is taken from the Book of Ecclesiastes where it is written:

“The RACE is not for the SWIFT, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to men of understanding, nor favour to men of skill; But time and chance happen to them all” (Ecclesiastes 9:11).

We thank our Lord JESUS CHRIST for loving our soul and speaking always to our hearts through His written “Word” which stands forever (Isaiah 40:8). I have been saying that the key to understanding the Scriptures is only possible when FLESHLY thoughts are denied. This is because our LORD Himself told us that His “Words” are “spirit” (John 6:63).

Therefore the moment we hear “RACE” from the Scriptures, then obviously it is talking about a spiritual “RACE.” However this “RACE” is not for the “SWIFT” (those who can move very fast), but it is for those who are spiritually slow, dull, boring, and who lacks the spiritual and velocity (speed). These features depicts the spiritual condition of those who are lacking and who by themselves do not have the capacity to run the “RACE” as a result of their SINFUL NATURE.

This “RACE” which King Solomon the wisest King is talking about is not different from the “RACE” which the Apostle Paul spoke about in Hebrews when he said, “Therefore we also, since e are surrounded by so great and cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the SIN which so easily ENSNARES us, and let us RUN with endurance the RACE that is set before us, looking unto JESUS the author and finisher of our FAITH...” (Hebrews 12:1-2).

The passage above is telling us that the spiritual “RACE” is the one that is “RUN” through “FAITH.” And if it is of “FAITH,” then it means that it has nothing to do with anything physical or those with STRONG muscles in motion. This is the reason why our Scripture reading is saying in Ecclesiastes that the spiritual marathon of “RACE” is not for the “SWIFT” or those who can “RUN” faster).

But who are the “SWIFT?” This refers to those who attempt to “RUN” the spiritual “RACE” through their own abilities and obedience to the “LAW” of commandments. If somebody thinks he or she can move very “SWIFT” (fast) because he does not commit SINS, the Bible is saying that the “RACE” of “FAITH” is not for such a person. God did not design this “RACE” for those who think they have a “STRONG” will to overcome SIN and to enter the Kingdom of God.

Therefore believers in Christendom who think otherwise (differently) must know that they cannot “RUN” this “RACE” unless they repent by denying themselves completely, accept their weaknesses in total submission, and believe in the “RIGHTEOUSNESS” of JESUS CHRIST which gives us the spiritual impetus. This “RIGHTEOUSNESS” which He fulfilled in the event of His baptism, His blood, and resurrection is the spiritual force of POWER which gives us the momentum to “RUN” on the road to Heaven.

He did this out of His “MERCY” to save all of us and the entire humanity with His own “RIGHTEOUS act” (Romans 5:18) which propel us into the abode of God. For this reason, the Apostle Paul said, “So then, it is not of him who will, nor of him who RUNS, but of God who shows MERCY2 (Romans 9:16). When it says here that it is not of “him who RUNS,” it means that God Himself did the work of our salvation in order for us to “RUN” this spiritual “RACE” of “FAITH.”

It is for those who cannot help themselves and who move slowly like the tortoise. Such people are weak, hungry, thirsty, and sinful because He did “not come to call the RIGHTEOUS, but SINNERS, to repentance” (Luke 5:32). But people like Pharisees and the Sadducees thought they were very STRONG in good behaviour to “RUN” the “RACE.”

But JESUS told them, “Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the Kingdom of God before you” (Matthew 21:31). Here, JESUS is telling us that even though tax collectors and harlots may look like tortoise in the eyes of the LAWYERS, He Himself gave such people His own RIGHTEOUSNESS which gives them the speed to “RUN” ahead of the Pharisees. This is what He mean by “before you.”

This tells us that, spiritually in the sight of God, those who accept their SINFUL NATURE can “RUN” faster than self-righteous people. Therefore if king Solomon says that “The RACE is not for the SWIFT” is it not true? In our own human eyes, a tortoise is not a match for a horse when it comes to running a “RACE.” But our LORD of whom “all things are POSSIBLE” (Luke 1:37) is the One who gives the tortoise the spiritual impetus to OUTRUN the horse.

Therefore those who accept their NATURE as they really are, and who rely on His perfect work of deliverance from SIN are on a GOOD “RUN,” and their reward is in Heaven.
