FAQ over het Christelijke Geloof

Onderwerp 1: Wedergeboren zijn uit het water en de Geest

1-16. What is the wages of sin?

The wages of sin is death. Regardless of what it is, every sin has to be judged before God, and the judgment for even a single sin is death. In order to atone for sins, the people of Israel had to offer a sheep without blemish before God. But such sacrifices could not possibly cleanse all their sins forever. “For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins” (Hebrews 10:4).
Therefore, God prepared the Lamb to deliver all people from their sins. Each sacrificial animal had to be subjected to the laying on of hands to take away all sin and then died instead of them.
In the New Testament, Jesus took away all our sins through His baptism in the Jordan as the Lamb of God and died for us. “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
The wages of sin is death, but Jesus expressed His love by dying on behalf of us and making a gift of eternal life for all the sinners of the world.
