Why was the heart of Solomon, who built the Temple and received great wisdom from God, carried away by idols?

1 Kings chapters 8–12 show us everything from the event in which the glory of God filled the Temple to Solomon’s fall and the division of the kingdom, and to Jeroboam’s worship of the golden calves. Even our past achievements of faith cannot guard our hearts for us today.

This book clearly proclaims the law of God’s salvation for the remission of sin, a law that no one can change. By the baptism He received from John the Baptist, Jesus took upon Himself the sins of the world; on the Cross He received the judgment of that sin and died; and by rising again He completed salvation. This is the unchanging gospel of the water and the Spirit.

Do not let your heart be carried away by idols. Stand firm in the righteousness of God, be united with the church, and use everything you have received for preaching the gospel and for the salvation of souls, and so preach this gospel of life to the next generation and to the whole world.
