“But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name” (John 20:31)
The words “It is finished!” that Jesus spoke on the Cross are the declaration that the problem of our sins has come to an end. The Lord received in His body, leaving nothing out, the judgment for the sin of the world that had been passed on to Him when He received baptism from John the Baptist at the Jordan River. And He rose again in three days, and to the disciples, who had shut the doors out of fear, He said, “Peace be with you,” and gave them the Holy Spirit. Following the word in John chapters 14 through 21, this book tells how the disciples, who had been troubled, became people who rely on the risen Lord. That love, which sought out Peter again after he had denied the Lord three times, gives life and peace to us, who are weak, today as well.
