In Mark chapters 9–16, Jesus, who came to serve, followed the path of giving His life as a ransom to the very end.

The Lord, who had all the sins of the world, including the sins of our whole lifetime, passed on to Him once and for all through the baptism He received from John, shed His blood and died on the Cross in order to receive the judgment for those sins in our place, and He rose again from death. This gospel of the water and the Spirit enters not a heart full of its own righteousness but the poor heart of someone who knows himself to be a pitiful sinner. The person who believes this gospel is freed from the toil of making himself righteous in order to wash away his sins and obtains rest, and in the hope of living again, he serves the gospel with the life he has received.
