“You He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins” (Ephesians 2:1)

The One who made us alive is Jesus, who is the true God and the Son of God. Without leaving out even one of our lifelong sins, He had all the sins of the world passed on to Him once and for all through the baptism He received from John. He received the judgment for those sins on the Cross in our place and shed His blood and died. We receive the remission of sins by believing in this gospel of the water and the Spirit, which the Lord who rose again from death has accomplished. In Ephesians chapters 1–3 we look at the will of the Father, who determined before the foundation of the world to make us His children; at how we, who had been outside the wall of sin, became family; and at the prayer that Paul, in prison, offered for the saints. Come to know deeply the love that made us alive when we were dead.
